Cathey is survived by her husband James Harbett, younger brother James Carter, daughter Jody Harbett-Trask, son-in-law Shane Trask, grandsons Nebraska, Michael, and Jakob, daughter Cathy Weber, Frederick Jr, grandchildren Oly and Leigha, son John Harbett, niece Christina and nephew Joshua. Cathey enjoyed reading, drawing horses and learning Tae-kwon-do. Cathey retired from Lab Corp of America after 42 years of employment. December 2018 James and Cathey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She graduated from Miami Central High School with James Olin Harbett, whom she married in 1968. Cathey was born in Wilmington, Delaware on Decemto Catheleen (Helms) Carter-Arthur and Avort “John” Carter. Arrangements are being handled by Fred Hunters Funeral Home located at 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33024. Melina is survived by her brother Fred Platt and his wife Denise, brother Seth Platt and his wife Suzann, her sister Sarah Platt, nieces Kristina Platt, Everly Platt, Sadie Platt, and nephew Nicholas Platt and his wife Anna. Melina is the daughter of George and Anne Platt and was predeceased by her sister, Kate Platt. Her sweet smile and caring spirit shined a light on all who knew her. She had a great sense of humor, was a gifted story teller and could sing like a bird. Melina loved travel and the ocean and kept wonderful memory books of her trips through Europe, Asia, Australia, South and Central America, Mexico, the Seychelles and north Africa. Melina returned to Fort Lauderdale and worked in progressively more responsible positions in the hospitality industry including Operations Manager at Blue Martini and later at Kaluz. After graduation Melina studied and received a Degree in Superior Cuisine at the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute in Sydney, Australia. She attended Florida State University where she made the Dean’s List, and subsequently transferred to the University of Central Florida where she received a BA in Liberal Studies.
